Introduction
Bookmandu-Nepal is a non-profit making, non-governmental organization
established in 2012. The organization was registered in CDO Kathmandu in 2012
and affiliated with Social welfare council. The vision of the organization is
to “to provide the quality education for all”. Thus it emphasizes on the
overall education system of Nepal. As a guiding philosophy, the organization
focused on improvement educational society of Nepal. The people that benefited
from our activities achieved the high level awareness and empowerment and
contributing in the field of social development and self reliance for
themselves as well through the medium of quality education. Since its establishment,
this organization has been conducting various social development projects,
programme, and other social and educational activities in Ichangu Narayan Village Development Committee.
In our pursuit of education, we use books- a lot of
it. But often, after we earn our educational certificates, these books often
end up occupying our shelves idly. Recognizing that these books can
really help in changing the lives of others, Bookmandu has been formed. We plan
to collect books from donors, through our network of volunteers, and circulate
to those who are in need. Bookmandu is a platform for those potential volunteers, who think that
books can be shared and exchanged to those who are in need. Our aim is to make
a functioning network of donors and receivers of unused books that are stored
idly in homes or sold for a few rupees without knowing its actual value. Our
main approach is to make full utilization of such books, by making a collection
center and encouraging people to contribute books, which are going to be
donated across schools and colleges in rural areas of Nepal. Our efforts will
be directed towards utilizing the capacity of Kathmandu and use it as a
knowledge bank of books and educational materials. We are launching two
programs soon, which are “BOOKS
FOR BOOKS” within the Kathmandu valley
and “YOUR CONTRIBUTION,
OUR BRIGHT FUTURE” project in specific rural
villages in Nepal.
Justification of
the programme
Just like a child needing a helping hand to take
its first step, Bookmandu requires support from the public to continue its
efforts for meaningful results. We want to create and nurture a culture of book
donation in Nepal. Our dream project is to make Kathmandu city, an open library
where people needing books aren’t refused the knowledge, just because of their
weak economic situation as well as to help the student of remote area of Nepal.
We are the young youth group who involved in Ngo sector to help the students
like us who have a great potential in the field of education. In the mean time
many students facing difficulties to get further study due to the lack of
educational material like book, copies pen and pencil, so we take initiative to
provide them the educational material thus they can continue their further
study which help to decrease the number of drop out in schools colleges and
university likewise we are also focus on cultural exchange of the student
across the country although many students are deprived from quality education
our motto is to provide them the quality education through educational
materials and volunteers teachers who have high devotion in teaching and by
alternative education is the major part of our project which provide practical knowledge to the students of Nepal
because all most Nepalese student are facilitated with the theoretical
knowledge only which later hamper on their carrier development and also
effects in sustainable educational
development of Nepal with this prospective Bookmandu Nepal conducted the three days "Book saving campaign " in Ichangu Narayan Village development committee in April 7,8 and 9/2012 and successfully collected more then one thousand books. The reason behind this campaign is to save the books and copies from selling and developing the habit of donating.
Bookmandu had conducted an awareness campaign for preserving books and donating it to needy or Bookmandu itself rather than selling it to the KAWADIS. Though the campaign was conducted in a small area “Ichangu-Gairi Gaun with Mahila Jagriti Aama Samuha”, the outcome was quite fruitful. All the mothers at Aama Samuha promised to provide us the knowledgeable books that they had rather than selling them away.
Similarly from 2068/12/25 to 2068/12/27, a three day
long program had been conducted by Bookmandu with a joint collaboration of
students from nearby schools and Bookmandu team with a huge support of public.
The events conducted in the program are listed as below.
